After yet another Chicago Bears loss, it's pretty safe to say there isn't a single fan who could honestly say they are looking forward to these final two games with any type of positive outlook.
Maybe, one could make an argument about watching Caleb Williams continue to make history as a rookie. I'll give you that.
But, genuinely looking forward to seeing this Bears team play football over the final two weeks of the season? That's a bit of a stretch. Even the locker room is so fed up with losing that they might be ready to look ahead.
Just a few days ago, wide receiver DJ Moore was in the middle of another media segment and made a comment about his offseason plans that might have been taken out of context.
"What I'm thinking about? Vacation. Let them do all the work, and then just come back and be ready to go," he said.
Monday morning during his appearance on 670 The Score, Moore figured he would clear the air.
"It was definitely taken the wrong way," Moore said of the comment. "He (the reporter) definitely asked about the offseason and the next head coach or coaches that will be coming in."
More Bears news:
This makes perfect sense, of course. If Moore was asked about the upcoming offseason, of coursre he's going to have an answer about ... the upcoming offseason.
"I wasn't trying to say I was on vacation already," he went on.
DJ Moore's clarification is warranted, but fans need to be more honest
As a professional athlete, Moore did the right thing. When something is taken out of context, someone will typically want to right their perceived wrong. That's what he did. And, to be frank, Moore has been a professional since coming to Chicago.
Fans have rarely had to worry about Moore's character. That isn't' an issue, here.
But, if fans were being honest with themselves, they'd agree with Moore's original sentiment. How many fans can honestly say they haven't looked forward to the offseason at this point in the season?
Just take a look around Bears forums, social media and their everyday conversations. There is more talk about the Bears offseason than there is about the remaining regular season games. No one is focused on the final two weeks.
Everyone is far more concerned with the coaching search, free agency spending and the draft. And the latter two topics are still at least three months away.
So, if Moore wanted to simply come out and set the record straight, then he did just that. But, let's all be real, here. There would have been very little disagreeing from the honest portion of this fan base, if he was being truthful about looking forward to vacation.
Moore clarifying his comments was a nice gesture, but let's just be real honest for a moment. It's too late for clarification on anything that has to do with this miserable season. Cole Kmet said it best yesterday when he refused to find any positives from a ninth-straight loss. This season has, indeed, been a miserable one.
It's too late to try and make light of anything. Let's move on to the offseason, just like everybody thought Moore originally wanted to say.
