Even with the Chicago Bears decide to let a player go, it's not always the end of the line for them.
A former Bears player, running back Coleman Bennett, has landed on his feet again with a new team to play for. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Bennett is signing a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins.
Bennett made a small impact on the Bears after the team signed him as an undrafted free agent in the 2026 NFL Draft. In his only preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, Bennett ran four times for 10 yards, with eight yards being his longest run. His highlight of the game was scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the 34-10 win over the Browns.

Most Bears fans will be happy for Bennett to sign with another team and continue his NFL career. He was a promising prospect coming out of college, but he was always going to have an uphill battle.
Chicago was loaded at running back going into training camp. Besides D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, the Bears also have Roschon Johnson, Salvon Ahmed, and Brittain Brown. There was no hope for Bennett to make the 53-man roster.
It'll be interesting to see if Bennett has any chance to make the Dolphins' 53-man roster despite getting there just a few days before the final preseason game. Most likely, Bennett faces a tough battle, but a one-year contract is a good sign that he'll stick around on the roster or the practice squad.
The Bears have their own problems to sort out in the running back room. Johnson and Ahmed are battling for the RB3 job, and Monangai injured his knee, leaving his Week 1 status up in the air.
Johnson and Ahmed could both make the roster initially if Monangai's injury is too worrisome. If not, the Bears' final preseason game against the Tennessee Titans will determine who wins the job and stays on the roster. The other probably goes on the practice squad.

Regardless, it's going to be a busy next few days for the Bears, as they try to figure out the roster and get through the joint practice and preseason game with the Titans before cutdowns begin.
