Just one day before the NFL is set to reveal the 2026 schedule, the Chicago Bears finally know at least one of the games that will happen.

There were rumors that the Bears would be on the road against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Instead, the Bears will be on the road on a holiday.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Bears will face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, marking the first matchup at Ford Field. This will be the second time in three years that the two teams will face off on Thanksgiving, as every Bears fan remembers what happened the last time that happened.

Bears will play the Lions on Thanksgiving Day

Back in 2024, a disaster of an ending with poor clock management by the Bears cost them the game against the Lions. That ended up being the last game Bears head coach Matt Eberflus was a part of before the team fired him.

While that's a memory Bears fans would like to forget, this game has a whole new meeting besides the two being NFC North rivals. Bears head coach Ben Johnson will face off against the team that he was the offensive coordinator for before taking the Chicago job.

Johnson and the Bears struggled against the Lions last year, losing both matchups. The first matchup was a massive blowout that saw the Bears drop to 0-2 and lose Jaylon Johnson for multiple months with an injury while the second game was lost on a last second field goal.

This is going to be an intriguing late-season matchup that will no doubt have playoff and division implications for both teams. The question is whether Johnson will have this matchup be the revenge game he needs.
