It's always good to see a former Chicago Bears player be able to find a job in the NFL and contribute on another team (as long as it is not one in the NFC North, of course).

On Thursday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the New York Jets have signed former Bears running back Khalil Herbert to the roster. This is in response to the Jets placing running back Braelon Allen on injured reserve after leaving New York's Monday night matchup with the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets will be Herbert's fifth NFL team since his career began in 2021. Besides the Bears and Jets, he has also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, and Seattle Seahawks.

Bears fans will fondly remember Herbert's time in Chicago

Back in 2021, the Bears selected Herbert in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. He came on strong as a solid backup running back for the Bears, playing with the team until the middle of last year, when Chicago traded him to the Bengals for a seventh-round pick.

Herbert finished his tenure with the Bears with 1,791 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 48 games. His best season came in 2022 when he ran for 731 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged a solid 4.8 yards per carry in his career.

Now, going to New York, Herbert will once again try to duplicate what he did well in Chicago and bring it to the Jets. His new head coach, Aaron Glenn, should be familiar with Herbert, having had to gameplan against him when he was the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

Bears fans will be watching from afar to see what Herbert can do to help the struggling Jets offense find a win this season.
