The Chicago Bears are getting ready for the first official year of the Ben Johnson era. They secured the most sought-after head coaching candidates in quite some time, in hopes his offensive prowess can turn the Bears into a juggernaut.

As teams cut their rosters down to 53 players, fans keep an eye on not only their favorite teams, but others as well. That's because they could see one of their former players end up on another team. For the Bears, they saw a familiarface from the Matt Eberflus era end up on another NFC team.

Former cornerback Reddy Steward, who was waived by the Minnesota Vikings this summer, was quickly claimed off waivers by the Dallas Cowboys. Now, he gets to reunite with Eberflus, who is now the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys.

Steward spent just one season with the Bears, signing as an undrafted free agent out of Troy. That preseason, Steward recorded 11 solo tackles and four assisted tackles, while in coverage, allowed 12 receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown on 15 targets. Steward ultimately ended up on the practice squad for the 2024 season, but did play in one game against the Arizona Cardinals. In that game, Steward recorded one tackle and a forced fumble, while allowing two catches for 39 yards on three targets.

This offseason, Steward signed a reserve contract with the Vikings, looking to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. During the preseason, Steward put up solid numbers. According to Pro Football Focus, Steward didn't allow a single reception on three targets, while recording three tackles, one quarterback hit, and one defensive pressure on 46 total snaps.

Once the Vikings waived Steward, the Cowboys and Eberflus wasted no time in bringing him to Dallas and used one of their claims on him. Obviously, the team has high hopes for Steward as an upcoming player. He likely won't start, but he could be a solid option off the bench. For Bears fans' sake, they hope he doesn't make a big play in their head-to-head matchup in Week 3.
