There never seems to be a dull moment within the Chicago Bears organization, and this week has been more of the same: drama.
After the worst loss of the Matt Eberflus era on Sunday against the Patriots, head coach Matt Eberflus vowed to make changes on Monday. While many fans had been hoping the change begins with Eberflus being fired, that wasn't likely to happen.
Instead, on Tuesday morning, the Bears fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron after Chicago's offense continued to struggle, only putting up three points against New England a week after scoring only nine points against the Cardinals.
Firing Waldron was necessary, but there are plenty of other problems that need to be addressed eventually. But, in reference to the Waldron firing, it does raise some other thoughts not only from fans, but even a former Bears quarterback.
Chase Daniel, now an analyst, reacted on the air Tuesday morning as the news broke of Waldron's firing. He didn't just react, he played a little game of "what if" in the process, and while he wasn't wrong, it sure hurt.
"The Bears interviewed Kliff Kingsbury before this season, who's with the Commanders balling," Daniel said.
More Bears news:
"They interviewed Liam Coen, the Bucs offensive coordinator who has Baker playing some of the best ball he's ever played his entire career," the former quarterback went on.
"They interviewed offensive coordinator Zac Robinson for the Falcons ... and they chose Shane Waldron ... I feel bad for Bears fans today," he finished.
Chase Daniel hits the nail on the head with his analysis of the Bears firing Shane Waldron
Everything Daniel said is exactly on par with what Bears fans have been thinking of Waldron for a while. Fans are watching other first-year coordinators with their new teams having success, even with adversity of their own.
In Washington, Kingsbury entered this year with a fellow rookie quarterback and an offensive line that wasn't exactly top-tier. He's done wonders with Jayden Daniels and that group.
In Tampa Bay, Liam Coen came in and shook things up in a big way. After Baker Mayfield had a career year in 2023, the quarterback has followed it up with an even bigger year, overall, this season. And, despite losing weapons like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in recent weeks, that offense is still performning better than some would have expected.
The Falcons, meanwhile, have had some issues here and there. But, that offense has scored at least 20 points in six games, including three games over 30. The Bears, on the other hand, have scored at least 20 points on just two occasions, and 12 points combined over their past three games.
