There might have been speed bumps on the road a few times, but a former Chicago Bears player is back in the NFL.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Buffalo Bills have signed running back Ian Wheeler. This past season with the UFL's Louisville Kings, Wheeler rushed for 370 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He was the United Bowl (UFL's Super Bowl) MVP after rushing for 81 yards and scoring a 44-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to give the Kings the lead and eventually the win.

Wheeler spent the last two preseasons with the Bears and was one of their top running backs. Last year, he tied for the team lead in rushing yards with 100 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Wheeler has been an incredible talent this past season in the UFL as one of the top running backs. He proved throughout the season that he can pick up the tough yards in goal line situations for touchdowns, while the last month showed off the blazing speed for big runs.

Bears fans got to see much of the same thing during the preseason the last two years, as Wheeler was one of the highest-performing runners on the team. He scored four touchdowns over the last two years.

It was a bit of a disappointment not to see Wheeler come back to the Bears and try to battle it out for the RB3 job. Roschon Johnson has been a name brought up throughout the offseason to be a cut candidate during training camp after having little production in 2025 thanks to losing snaps to seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai.

He now joins a Bills team that has James Cook as the leading back. Wheeler will be looking to try to earn a roster spot as the RB3 on the team, with Ray Davis looking poised to be the backup.

Everyone in Chicago will be rooting for Wheeler as he looks to try to cement his place in the NFL and avoid another trip to the UFL.
