Packers appear not to be making same mistake that has haunted Bears for years

Why not??

The Chicago Bears are still trying to forget what they did back in 2022 with wide receiver Chase Claypool, but the Green Bay Packers seemed willing to at least consider the idea.

Last week, the Packers had Claypool in for a tryout at their rookie minicamp to see how he is looking. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson shared an update on whether Green Bay was actually considering signing him, but it was not good news for the veteran receiver.

"No immediate deal for #Packers and veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool after tryout, per league source, and no plan to revisit at this time."

Packers appear to not be interested in Chase Claypool

Claypool was a former second-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers who had a promising start to his career with back-to-back 800-yard seasons. That was until Bears general manager Ryan Poles made his first mistake as a first-year GM in 2022 when he traded a second-round pick for Claypool.

The end result of that was 18 receptions for 191 yards and one touchdown in 10 games in 2022 and 2023. Early in the 2023 season, the Bears gave up on Claypool and traded him to the Miami Dolphins for a sixth-round pick.

Chicago was really hoping the Packers would make the same mistake the Bears had years ago and sign Claypool. Green Bay was wise enough to realize that Claypool hasn't played in an NFL regular season game since 2023, and his time might have passed him already.

If Claypool is serious about an NFL comeback, he might have to consider another option, like the United Football League or the Canadian Football League. Otherwise, the Packers aren't going to fall for it, and other NFL teams are going to take notice that they passed on him when they lost two starting receivers in free agency. It might be time for Claypool to move on.
