Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles made the blockbuster trade of the season with Jeffery Simmons, and everyone saw on national television how that has worked out so far. Don't expect that to be the end.
After giving up two first-round picks and a Day 3 selection, the Bears saw Jeffery Simmons rack up six tackles, two tackles for loss, one pass deflection, one quarterback hit, and one sack in the Bears' 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks. That wasn't on fans' minds; they didn't expect him to be that good in his first outing in the blue and orange uniform.
Now that the Bears are 6-2, the team knows it needs to go all out for a Super Bowl title, as it's one or two pieces away. According to the latest report, Chicago has two familiar faces that could return via trade.
Ryan Poles isn't quite done making trades for the Bears in 2026
NFL Network senior insider Ian Rapoport appeared on ESPN's "Big Day" show to chat about what is next for the Bears. Rapoport said the Colts are ready to strike a deal in two months and potentially land two players: Khalil Mack and Nahshon Wright.
"First of all, the Simmons trade was really brilliant. You know, you wonder what kind of player could be worth two first-round picks. You have to be a special player. Changes the entire thing. That's what everyone is looking for. If you're going to make a trade, make a trade, make an impact. They have done it. Kudos to Ryan Poles for understanding where they are as an organization. Among their needs, they have a need on the edge, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him add some secondary help as well. Khalil Mack is a name that we obviously have discussed.
The problem with that is Joe Hortiz, the general manager for the Chargers, has shown no indication that he wants to sell at all. What they like, how Khalil Mack has helped the young edges and helped the locker room. It's bad there. They do not want to give up on the season. The other interesting one is Nahshon Wright. I mean, was with the Bears last year, was with the Jets, now is really not playing. Could that be a name to watch as well, just for some depth? I do not believe Ryan Poles is done."

Mack has been off to a faster start this season than he has in the last few years. He's got six quarterback hits and three sacks in the first seven games.
Wright has been a non-factor since signing his one-year, $5.5 million contract with the New York Jets in the offseason. His one tackle in three games shows he isn't getting any reps right now.
If Ryan Poles can land Khalil Mack & Nahshon Wright, he needs to do it
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that they can be had at the right cost. Chicago obviously does not have the same kind of draft capital now as it did before Simmons' arrival.
What will help the Bears is that Mack and Wright should come fairly cheap. A Mack trade is projected to require only a fifth-round pick, while Wright would most likely require only a sixth- or seventh-round pick.
Mack would be a clear upgrade for what they have off the edge, but not a necessity right now. Montez Sweat and Austin Booker are playing great football right now, and once Dayo Odeyingbo is back from IR, they will have a solid rotation. Obviously, Mack would be great since he can be a 20- to 30-snap-per-game pass rusher who would only be needed on passing downs.
Wright is the most important trade to make right now. Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson have struggled mightily, allowing passer ratings of 129 or higher each. The hope is that Malik Muhammad will be back from his toe injury in the next week or two, but Wright would give them the depth insurance they need if the cornerbacks don't improve.

If the price is low on Mack and Wright, Poles should try to get those deals done and get this Super Bowl-caliber team some more help.
