A change might be coming to the Chicago Bears' franchise.

Matt Eberflus might be fired by Thanksgiving. Given that the Bears have lost three games in a row and are struggling immensely on offense, this should come as no surprise. It's a stark contrast to the optimism Bears fans had for this season.

Eberflus currently has a 14-29 record as head coach. Well into his third year of the Bears rebuild, the Bears should be a playoff team.

When the Bears went 3-14 in his first season in 2022, it was cast aside as a rebuilding season. In 2023, the team went 7-10, and there was hope that 2024 would be the year. Halfway through the 2024 season, it's looking like the Bears haven't panned out as well as fans and analysts expected.

The highlight of his career as head coach was a late-season run last year when the Bears went 5-3 down the stretch thanks to an improved defense. Besides this, the Bears have mostly been a below-average team under Eberflus.

What makes the Eberflus era so sad is the Bears are a good team on paper. The Bears have the best future of all the teams with a losing record this season, per CBS Sports. The roster is young and there are pieces in place to win.

What may've been the end for Eberflus was losing to the Washington Commanders on a Hail Mary pass. Instead of calling a timeout to get the defense ready for the play, he kept the team out on the field. The Bears were 4-2 heading into this game and are now 4-5. This collapse is a big reason for the team's recent struggles.

If the Bears fire Eberflus before Thanksgiving, newly promoted offensive coordinator Thomas Brown is the best replacement option. Brown just replaced Shane Waldron, who was fired due to the team's struggles on offense.

There is optimism for the future. There are a lot of qualified coaches ready to become head coaches. Two coaches who will be available that the Bears should consider are Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick.
