Justin Fields' latest press conference will give Bears fans awful flashbacks

It's a tough watch.

One day, Justin Fields will be a distant memory. Sometime in the near-to-intermediate future, Bears fans will joyfully watch Caleb Williams take over the NFC North and the though of Fields won't even cross their minds. He'll just be the last quarterback in a three-decades-long waiting list.

That's not today though! Today, Fields is still very much a part of Bears Discourse, which is both a testament to the impact he left in Chicago and also the non-stop need for revisionist history that fuels mid-week NFL conversation. If Bears fans couldn't talk about Fields, they'd be talking about Mitch Trubisky, so it could be worse.

But not unlike Trubisky, it seems like Fields' time as the Steelers starting QB is coming to an end. Despite leading them to one of the NFL's more surprising starts (4-2), head coach Mike Tomlin announced this week that Russell Wilson would be getting first team reps in practice. Not only that, but Tomlin wouldn't commit to starting Fields this weekend against the Jets. When asked about the decision, Fields gave an answer that Bears fans will know and recognize well.

Justin Fields' press conference will look awfully familiar to Bears fans

"I don't think I played good enough, if I'm being real with you. If I'm being real myself, I think if I did play well enough, I don't think there would be any sort of, who should be playing, who should not."

I can confidently say this now that Fields isn't on the Bears: I feel sorry for the guy. The Steelers are 4-2! He's playing the best football of his career! And sure, he's not playing like an All-Pro or anything, but it's awfully hard to justify benching a quarterback who's playing his best football and winning games for *Russell Wilson.* Fields' play hasn't been good enough to be considered a bonafide starter, but this is now two NFL teams where he's gotten somewhat of a raw deal.

This press conference is also peak Fields in that it's brutally honest and commendably professional. Throughout his time with the Bears, he always showed an impressive ability to be self-aware, and was always forthright about it with the media. He has 100 different reasons to be mad at the Steelers right now, and I'm not sure anyone would blame him if he let his frustrations show a bit.

Hopefully Fields lands on his feet somewhere, be it Pittsburgh or a third team. Luckily for Bears fans, that's not something they need to worry about anymore.
