Williams showed during the closing moments of games that he could make the right play at the right time. That's how he helped lead the Bears to seven fourth-quarter comebacks, including the Wild Card win over the Packers. Â
Those games leave lasting impressions. Former Bears safety Kevin Byard III discussed Williams and his 2025 season in a recent interview for the NFL on CBS.Â
"Well, he already has the nickname Iceman, and the reason why is because, young quarterbacks obviously, they're gonna need time to develop," Byard said. "But when you talk about game on the line, and we need him to make a play, there's really nobody I'd rather have under center. Outside of Drake Maye, now."
Kevin Byard praises his former quarterback Caleb Williams
Even though Byard is now on the New England Patriots, Williams’ play in those critical drives resonated with the veteran safety. Byard saw up close how the Bears’ young quarterback handled high-stress moments and found ways to secure wins when the probability was low.Â
Byard didn't just praise his former quarterback's late-game heroics. The veteran safety took it a step further as he can see Williams take home a massive award in the near future.Â
"The sky's the limit for this guy," Byard said. "I think personally I truly believe that he's gonna be the MVP one day, and I think it's probably gonna be sooner than later."
In order for Williams to achieve that accomplishment, it's going to take more than just fourth-quarter comebacks. The Bears’ quarterback will have to start putting together complete games.Â

With Williams heading into his third NFL season and second year with Ben Johnson as his head coach and play caller, the sky could truly be the limit for the talented young quarterback.Â
