Following the Chicago Bears' 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots last Sunday, the fanbase was hoping to wake up last Monday with the news that Matt Eberflus was fired as the team's head coach.
Instead, Eberflus went through his normal Monday operation which included an embarrassing interview on ESPN 1000 in addition to fumbling over his own words when talking about the status of former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
Waldron was fired by the Bears on Tuesday but after it was reported that Eberflus was looking for any scenario to keep the embattled offensive coordinator, it seems that the Bears' head coach may be falling out of favor with the team's front office.
The Bears have never fired a head coach in-season but the same was true for an in-season firing of an offensive coordinator prior to last week. While it was unlikely that a three-game losing streak was going to push the Bears' front office toward firing Eberflus, a loss to the Packers on Sunday may do the trick.
Entering Week 11, Eberflus is among the favorites for next NFL head coach to be fired.
There have been reports that the Jacksonville Jaguars may move on from Doug Pederson with a loss to the Detroit Lions. If Pederson is indeed fired within the next 24 hours, all eyes will be on Eberflus' status with the Bears.
Beyond how the Bears look in terms of being a playoff contender, it's common knowledge that the McCaskey Family values how the team looks against the Green Bay Packers more than anything. If the Bears have a repeat performance against the Packers as they have had in the last three weeks, that could be what pushes the team toward making an in-season change with Eberflus. Regardless, it seems Eberflus is trending toward being fired at the end of the season if nothing else.
