If anyone knows about the pressures of being the franchise quarterback for the Chicago Bears, it would be former starter Mitch Trubisky.
Now with the Buffalo Bills as Josh Allen's backup, Trubisky went through it all when he started for the Bears for four years. While speaking with the media at the Bears-Bills joint practice, Trubisky shared his advice for current Bears quarterback Caleb Williams in the top role.
“I only had it for 4 years. I wish I had it longer. Take it in, enjoy the process”
"All eyes are on you in this city. It's really a privilege, and there's a lot of pressure that comes with that. I miss that, and it's a lot of fun to be the franchise guy, especially in a city like this. I would just say to have fun with it and enjoy the process."

Not all was bad during the Trubisky era in Chicago, so Williams can still learn a thing or two
Once upon a time, Trubisky was the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, where he spent four years. He finished with a 29-21 overall record as the starter, throwing for 10,609 yards and 64 touchdowns to 37 interceptions. Trubisky also added 1,057 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground as he took the Bears to the playoffs twice.
Realistically, Trubisky was a winner compared to other quarterbacks who were in the franchise. Three out of the four years as the starter, he had a winning record as the starter. He completed 64% of his passes and 12 interceptions is the highest he has thrown in a season.
The problem with Trubisky was that he was never a flashy quarterback. He's not the type of quarterback who is overly an impressive athlete or make the big plays that guys like Allen and Lamar Jackson can.
Right now in Chicago, the Bears have Williams, who could be that guy. He put up just as good, if not better, numbers than Trubisky did in his career, with his over 3,500 yards passing and 20 touchdowns to six interceptions in 2024.

The potential is there for Williams. Chicago hopes to have a difference maker in him, but Williams should listen to Trubisky and enjoy the moment and embrace being the franchise quarterback.
