Myles Garrett trade cleared the path for Bears to steal from the Rams

It'd be worth the wait!

Before you jump to conclusions, here, this is not Maxx Crosby propaganda. Although, it would make perfect sense for the Bears to go out and make that deal happen.

No, the Myles Garrett trade did send several ripple effects across the league and those ripple effects will continue to be felt for months and years to come. But, this particular idea doesn't involve the current Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher.

Instead, it involves a current Los Angeles Rams defender: stud edge rusher Byron Young, who at least for another year, gets to team up with Garrett on that vaunted L.A. defense. Interestingly enough, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported, almost immediately after the Garrett trade, that the Rams are not currently set to extend their 2027 free agent class this summer.

That happens to include Young along with defensive tackle Kobie Turner, guard Steve Avila and wide receiver Puka Nacua.

The Rams might have given the Bears an open door to signing a defensive stud thanks to Myles Garrett

The Rams are an intriguing team. General manager Les Snead certainly dances to the beat of his own drum and has always done things his way. For the Rams, that's led to a recent Super Bowl victory and, well, it could lead to yet another one this coming season if we're being honest.

Along with those blockbuster deals, Snead has also sent a message to current players that, even though they perform well, they might not be rewarded with new deals to stick around. Just look at Jared Verse, who was included in the trade to acquire Garrett.

Now, Snead very well could be looking at Young in a different uniform next season, and the Bears make too much sense.

Young is undersized as a defensive end and plays better as a standing outside linebacker who rushes the passer, but in today's defensive schemes, there's always room to mix things up.

The Bears could also look at someone like Turner, who has positional versatility as a lineman who can line up both inside and outside. In three seasons with Los Angeles, Turner has compiled 24.0 sacks, and many of those are from lining up as a defensive tackle, not off the edge.

Either way, with the Rams' trade for Garrett, it sure looks like they are unable to pay their young stars who are approaching free agency in 2027. As it stands, it would be shocking to see the Rams get extensions done with Young and Turner.

Maybe, they are able to work something out with one of them. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for the Bears, they have needs all over the defensive line until someone steps up and claims a spot, for good, other than Montez Sweat.

In all likelihood, Bears fans who were hoping for more of a revamped defensive line, this offseason, will have a great chance of seeing that come to fruition in 2027.
