Most Chicago Bears fans would like to move on from the gut-wrenching 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, but one player on the team had a pretty memorable game.
Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright stepped up in a big way with the injuries to Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon and had a solid game for his first start in Chicago. He finished with four tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass deflection. Wright also had one of the biggest plays in the game when he picked off Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy and returned it 74 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 17-6 lead at the time.

While that play would not be the deciding factor in the game, it was a great symbol of the type of game Wright had under the circumstances. His number was called, and he stepped up to the plate to the point where he did something that no one else on the team or in the NFL did on the opening weekend.
Wright tops every player in the NFL in one category
Pro Football Focus writer John Kosko went through the data on who were the best graded cornerbacks in the NFL from Week 1. One category where Wright actually topped the rest of the NFL was that he had the lowest EPA (Expected Points Added) of any corner.
"A pick-six is one of the quickest ways to slash your EPA allowed, and that’s exactly what Wright delivered on Monday Night Football against his former team. Wright was targeted four times, allowing just one catch for 28 yards. The highlight, of course, was his interception returned for a touchdown, capping off a statement performance in his 2025 debut."
Preseason was an up-and-down time for Wright as he had solid performances through the first two games. The Kansas City Chiefs game is where he struggled, as he had two penalties on one play and allowed a deep ball pass in coverage.

All of that was washed away with his ability to step up and play well with the large number of injuries to the defense. Wright deserves a ton of credit for it and might have helped himself to get more playing time during the season.
