Most would agree that the Chicago Bears had a strong first draft with Ben Johnson as head coach. However, after reviewing the draft in full, it became quite clear.Â
Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic recently did a re-draft of the 2025 NFL draft. In that, we saw three Bears players get selected. Of course, the Bears only had one first-round pick last year, so the picks were pretty good.Â
Chicago Bears dominate in 2025 re-draft
He had Colston Loveland go 10th, which is when the Bears picked him. The only players that were not selected in the top ten that went that high in this draft were Nick Emmanwori and Jaxson Dart. The Bears obviously were not going to draft a quarterback, and while Emmanwori had a great rookie season, he is a great fit with Seattle. Meanwhile, Loveland is the perfect fit for the Bears' offense. The Bears would take Loveland if both were on the board. Either way, Loveland went ahead of Tyler Warren a year after the same decision was deemed controversial.Â
Warren went 14th, at his original draft slot as well.
Things get interesting at pick 27, though. Ozzy Trapilo, who was selected 56th overall, comes in as the next Bears player off the board. Baumgardner notes that Trapilo is injured, but his play in his rookie season outweighs that and makes him a worthy pick. It is fair that Trapilo switched sides and came in on the fly last year and looked good at left tackle. This is not an easy feat, so the value is tremendous.
Most Bears fans would have guessed that Luther Burden, who was selected 39th, would have been the next player in this draft. He did go in the first round as well, though. He went 30th overall. Emeka Egbuka and Tetoria McMillan still went ahead of Burden in this exercise, but it is clear that the Bears have a player that people in the media are excited about.

The team appears to have gotten nearly 30 picks of value on Trapilo, and Burden went nine picks higher in this exercise. This may go down as an all-time great draft by General Manager Ryan Poles.
