There's a new pope, and chances are he is a Chicago Bears fans.

On Thursday, Illinois native, Robert Prevost was voted as the new Pope. The selection of Prevost marks the first time that there has been an American-born Pope. But for a Chicago Bears team that is no stranger to winning the offseason, there may be no greater honor than having a fan of the beloved holding the highest position in the Roman Catholic Church.

But, after all, this is the Bears we are talking about. Bears fans are not used to having nice things. That is why, as the world celebrates the new Pope, some are taking a moment to troll Bears fans. Because, well, Chicago has produced a pope before having a quarterback who has thrown 4,000 yards in a season.

Even after Chicago produces a Pope, Chicago Bears fans are still being trolled

But, if we're being honest, we're using today's news to suggest that the Bears are officially headed in a new direction. The new Pope, being from Chicago, should be all the confirmation that Bears fans need that Caleb Williams will be the one to stop the quarterback misery.

And, had Williams not been paired with Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron last season, chances are he would have eclipsed the elusive 4,000-yard passing mark for a Bears quarterback. Williams started all 17 games for the Bears last season, passing for 3,541 receiving yards. There were 9 games last season when Williams threw for under 200 yards, a number that should be reduced significantly with Ben Johnson now in place as the Bears' head coach.

For comparison purposes, last season, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff only had 3 games where he passed for under 200 yards in a game. Assuming Williams replicates that with the Bears in 2025, the 4,000 mark should be passed.

Beyond Johnson's arrival, Williams has a revamped offense to work with after the additions of Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III during the 2025 NFL Draft. The stage is set for Williams to answer the prayers that many Bears fans have had.
