This offseason, the Chicago Bears have a lot of interesting decisions with free agents being available, but they might have to consider some options with players on the current roster.

All the talk has been around what the Bears will do with running back D'Andre Swift and wide receiver DJ Moore, as they have been a part of many trade talks and even cut candidates. After the kind of season both guys had in 2025, it might be hard to justify letting them go.

On the other hand, an offensive player on the Bears has been there for three years and has not produced the kind of numbers Chicago was looking for. He is looking more and more like a draft bust each day, and the Bears might feel the urge to let him go before his contract is up.

Bears might need to consider letting one of their 2023 draft picks go

Back in 2023, the Bears selected running back Roschon Johnson in the fourth round of that draft. Johnson was considered Chicago's power back to complement their running game.

It was actually a decent start to his career as he rushed for 352 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. While 2024 was a down year in yards, Johnson scored six touchdowns, primarily as a short-yardage back, with 55 carries for 150 yards.

This past season was a mix of everything going wrong for Johnson, from injuries to being outright replaced by seventh-round rookie Kyle Monangai. Johnson played in just seven games and had two carries for 17 yards.

While Swift will still have questions surrounding him, there is no question that Monangai is the future of the Bears' backfield as he is the power back now and Swift has been the speed guy. Johnson is now left in a position where he has been forgotten in this offense and most likely will not see the field ever unless injuries happen or if he finds a role on special teams.

It was a promising start for Johnson in his career, but with his role being reduced to nothing, the Bears could either just let him go a year earlier from the four-year deal he initially signed or see how he does in training camp and fight for the RB3 spot. Regardless, it's only a matter of time before Johnson is off the roster.
