Packers' insider calls out Shane Waldron's firing for being a CYA move for the Bears

For her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll spoke with Peter Bukowski from Locked on Packers and The Leap to help preview Sunday's Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers game. Peter never shies away from an opinion or a chance to stick it to Bears fans, but when it comes to the current state of the Bears, he's seeing what many of our fans are seeing: a directionless team struggling to find an identity led by a head coach in over his head.

Here's what Bukowski said about the firing of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

“I’m surprised the Bears did it, but I’m not surprised as this is a CYA move all the way,” Bukowski told Doil. “This is Matt Eberflus saying, ‘Please don’t blame me for the problems that are going on here,’ even though we know he is partially to blame.”

The morale has dwindled during Chicago's three-game losing streak, and Bukowski's take from afar isn't much different than how we feel. If he's sensing impending doom from our franchise, is there any turning things around?

“I can't remember, even in years where they were god-awful, vibes this bad in Chicago. I can't, like, guys walking off the field in disgust, publicly undermining the coach. Like, it just, it kind of boggles my mind... not helping Caleb Williams up off the ground. I mean, those things, that's inexcusable stuff. Like, that's, we've quit on this coach and this season."

"And that's why I don't think there's a dead cat bounce coming from the OC being fired. I think this is untenable. I think this is unwinnable. I think they've reached the point of no return. I think it's just over for them.”

While he picks Green Bay to win, he recognizes that the Bears have a decent defense and that, on any given Sunday, they could pull off the upset.

Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love is tied for the league in interceptions with 10, and he's thrown at least one pick in every game, but Bukowski said that's not an issue with the Packers.

“Internally, there does not seem to be a concern; I asked Matt Lefleur about this after the Rams game; he gets asked about it every week, it seems, and every week, he’s just sort of like ‘stop asking me.’ That’s his attitude about it. So if Matt Lefleur’s not worried about it, I’m not worried about it.”
