5 must-watch offensive players in Chicago Bears preseason opener
The preseason may not be the most impactful portion of the year for the key starters and game-changers, but plenty of jobs will be won and lost in the next month or so. The Chicago Bears are the rare team to have a fourth preseason game, which means an extra long look at some fringe roster players, or depth chart battles.
Which offensive players could gain the most in the first preseason game?
5. Tyson Bagent
This is going to be a big preseason for Tyson Bagent. While most fans assume he is the backup quarterback, the team has a new offensive coordinator and they want him to earn it. The initial depth chart listed Bagent as the backup, but there was an "or" meaning that he could just as easily be flipped to the third-string role.
Brett Rypien is older than Bagent and has more experience on the NFL field. He also comes from playing under Shane Waldron, so he has a leg up on Bagent entering the preseason.
Still, Bagent was behind Nathan Peterman and PJ Walker last year and the gameplay ended that discussion. If Bagent builds off of last year in the preseason he will win the job. That has not been done yet.
