6 Chicago Bears who are key to a victory over the Texans
Caleb Williams, QB
This leaves us with Caleb Williams. I know that this one is very obvious. Seeing Williams take care of the football vs. the Titans was great. He left some big plays on the field with his poor footwork and that cannot continue to happen. What is crazy is that Williams has yet to throw a touchdown in the NFL -- even in the preseason. His only touchdown to this point came in the preseason and it was a rushing touchdown.
I am confident that changes in Week 2 though. Williams also didn't eclipse 100 passing yards last week. He is hardly on pace to break that infamous 4,000-yard mark for Chicago. Week 2 needs to be the point where he fixes things. He said the game wasn't any faster than he expected and watching him process things proves that to be true. However, he needs to stop with his happy feet, plant and throw. He also needs to find a way to not have so many balls batted down at the line of scrimmage.
For the Chicago Bears to beat the Texans, Williams needs to find his footing (literally) and get himself into a rhythm. I think both Williams and Waldron were pushed off their game last week but I am expecting the offense to at least resemble an NFL offense this week. The defensive backs are more exploitable in Houston and Williams needs to right the ship this week. If Williams struggles again then many Bears fans are going to jump off the hype train real quick -- even if way too soon.
