Tuesday's roster cutdown deadline has come and gone, meaning that the Chicago Bears - and the other 31 teams in the NFL - are officially down to their initial 53-man roster. There is still opportunity for roster transactions, injury designations, and practice squad shuffling between now and the start of the regular season, but we now have a pretty good idea of who is going to suit up for the Chicago Bears in week one.
As fun as it is to see underdogs and hidden gems make the team, it is equally sad to see what talented players just narrowly missed the mark at the end of training camp. Nonetheless, many players who were cut on Tuesday can still find a roster spot, either on their original squad or with a different team, and the Chicago Bears may end up regretting the release of these six players:
Offensive Linemen Ja'Tyre Carter and Jake Curhan
The Bears ended up keeping 10 offensive linemen in their initial 53-man roster but reserves Ja'Tyre Carter and Jake Curhan were unfortunately unable to make the cut. Carter, who was waived on Monday, has had strong flashes since being selected near the end of the 2022 NFL Draft, but now looks to join the Bears' practice squad or another franchise entirely.
Curhan was similarly waived on Tuesday afternoon, but the young offensive lineman seems to be a schematic fit for the Bears, especially considering that he followed offensive coordinator Shane Waldron over from Seattle after spending his first three seasons with the Seahawks. It would make sense for Curhan to be eventually retained on the practice squad if he is not claimed by another team.
