It’s no secret the Chicago Bears have high hopes for third-year quarterback Justin Fields. Since being the 11th overall in the 2021 Draft, Fields has become a lightning rod for an organization that has otherwise had little to be excited about.

Justin Fields must improve for the Chicago Bears in 2023

Not even a 3-14 2022 campaign has dampened the organization’s utmost confidence in their quarterback. The Bears doubled down on Fields this offseason by trading out of the first overall pick, where they could’ve selected a quarterback, and added help at receiver and offensive line. Everything is set up for Fields to take a year three leap and separate himself from the middle of the pack.

But for all the optimism surrounding Fields’ third season in the league, there is understandable skepticism. He finished last season near the bottom of the league in almost every major passing stat, and his explosive runs weren’t enough to stop the Bears from finishing with the worst record in the league.

To make matters worse, the Bears quarterbacks don’t exactly have the best track record of meeting expectations. All of this pressure has made 2023 make or break for Fields.

To say Fields has to be better than he was a year ago is hardly a revelation, but how much he improves is contingent on the growth in several key areas.

Here are four areas where Justin Fields needs to be better in the 2023 season.
