This could really help swing the tides.

Heading into Week 3, the Chicago Bears should be counting their blessings while sitting with a record of 1-1.

It hasn't been pretty, but the defense is carrying this Bears team and stands as the sole reason Chicago was able to win their opener.

One of the main reasons why the Bears have been involved in ugly showings is due to the lack of production on offense. In fact, Chicago is second-to-last in overall yards per game on offense and they rank fifth-to-last in rushing yards per game, averaging only 77.5 per contest thus far.

With rookie quarterback Caleb Williams being under constant pressure and unable to make decisions in the manner he'd like to, there's been no consistency through two games from the first-year passer. The lack of protection and lack of run game are two key hot topics, and the Bears have to figure out how to fix them in a hurry.

Fortunately, things get a little more feasible for the Bears starting in Week 3. Going up against an 0-2 Indianapolis Colts team won't be an easy victory by any means, especially considering the Colts do have a good roster and will be hungry for a win after dropping their first two.

However, what Indianapolis gives the Bears is the ability to go up against the league's worst rushing defense through Week 2. The Colts are allowing a whopping 237.0 yards per game on the ground. With the Bears struggling in that regard, something has to give, as they say.

If Chicago can get the ground game going, it will make life a whole lot easier on Williams in opening up the offense. Of course, blocking is the catalyst here. The Bears' interior offensive line has been atrocious, and both tackles are far from perfect through two games.

Assuming Chicago commits to the run, getting Khalil Herbert more involved next to D'Andre Swift, they could give Williams a lift.

The Bears will be facing the league's worst three rushing defenses over the next three games

Not only do the Bears get the luxury of facing the Colts in Week 3, but their next two opponents are also second and third-to-last in rushing yards allowed.

Chicago faces the L.A. Rams in Week 4 followed by the Carolina Panthers in Week 5. If things hold relatively true to the above list of stats, the Bears have quite the silver platter served up in terms of soft run defenses for them to "get right" against.

Williams is going to have his struggles. Rookie quarterbacks are going to have growing pains. We don't need to go down the list of great NFL quarterbacks who struggled in their rookie year (cough, Peyton Manning) and ended up having excellent careers.

There is no reason why the Bears shouldn't be able to establish more of an identity on the ground over these three games while Williams is afforded more comfort because of it. But, it's on Shane Waldron to make that happen.

While the players have to make plays, it's Waldron who has yet to put his players in the best position to succeed. Giving reps to Travis Homer and Gerald Everett over Herbert and Cole Kmet is a colossal waste of time and talent on Waldron's part.

Better personnel decisions need to be made. Better play calls need to be made. And, if the Bears can get those from Waldron, they'll be able to turn the tides.
