Chicago Bears Roster: The big boys up front and the interruption

The Chicago Bears kept nine offensive linemen and traded for an additional one. Oh, before I move on to the offensive line, I forgot. Stop wanting the Bears to grab Colt McCoy or Bailey Zappe. It's weird. The Bears need to use their high-priority waiver claims for players considered for the active roster. Grabbing one of those quarterbacks isn't an upgrade over Bagent. Also, the roster has far greater needs than figuring out who QB2 and QB3 would become.

Okay, let's get back on track. Many are talking about how the Chicago Bears have many offensive linemen on the roster. The Packers have 11, so, umm, yeah. The more important thought is the Bears have three tackles and seven interior players. That is important. They either fear someone will pooch Doug Kramer or plan to release Lucas Patrick. It does not make sense to have four players that can play center.

Most expect Teven Jenkins to go on IR, which moves Cody Whitehair back to left guard (maybe or new addition Dan Feenly). Either way, we could assume Patrick or Kramer (maybe both) will released to gain additional wavier wire pick-ups. The question remains: what position would those waiver pick-ups be? (**UPDATE**) What did I tell you? I started writing this Wednesday morning and took my railroader nap (awake before noon), and there is already a roster change. That is how quick things happen.

The additions so far have been:

  • DE Khalid Kareem (Colts)

On a shocking note (to me), defensive end Terrell Lewis is the player being waived. My editor, Robert Schwarz, Jr., asked, "What did Rasheem Green do to keep his roster spot?" Well, the only thought I would bring up once I got to the DEs is that he plays a different position. The common person thinks edge rusher, but my brain thinks strong side and weak side rusher. Remember, they had a joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts and got a good look at Kareem, who finished with 10 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 3 sacks (one in each game) this preseason.
