2. Defensive end became a curious position in a matter of hours
Over the course of the preseason, two defensive ends stood out among the rest for the Bears: Terrell Lewis and Trevis Gipson.
Gipson wound up being released, which was somewhat of a surprise, considering he was a starter in 2022 and had such a great series of exhibitions. Gipson looked the best he had looked in a long time during this year's preseason, and now the Bears will be moving on.
Lewis, meanwhile, made the initial roster, until the Bears cut him Wednesday morning to make room for a couple of waiver claims. He also had a fantastic preseason, and now the Bears will be moving on from him as well in favor of former Colts defensive end Khalid Kareem.
Now, the starters figure to be veterans Yannick Ngakoue and DeMarcus Walker, with Rasheem Green, Dominique Robinson and Kareem for depth.
Fans aren't exactly thrilled with the decision at this position, but at the moment, we have no choice but to roll with it and trust Poles and his decision-making. Speaking of decision-making, Poles and company made a big one at a highly-important position.
