It may not be hyperbole to think that a few years from now D.J. Moore will be one of the best Chicago Bears wide receivers in franchise history. Moore is only 25 years old and comes into the team with plenty of achievements already. You can say what you want about the quarterback play of Justin Fields, but he will be the best that Moore has played with.
When you add that to the fact that Moore has already had a historic start to his NFL career, there is even more upside to possibly be displayed.
D.J. Moore brings youth and production to the Chicago Bears
D.J. Moore has not even turned 26 years old yet, but he has 5,000 yards. That sounds impressive, and that is because it is. The list of players in NFL history to achieve that is seven.
Name | Yards |
---|---|
Randy Moss | 6,743 |
Mike Evans | 6,103 |
Larry Fitzgerald | 5,975 |
DeAndre Hopkins | 5,865 |
D.J. Moore | 5,201 |
Brandin Cooks | 5,1457 |
Amari Cooper | 5,097 |
That is a historic list to be on. Now, this does have a bit of bias to it. Most of these players had to enter the NFL when they were 20 years old just to get on the field to record that many yards by age 25. Moore came out of Maryland after three seasons, and any wideout who stayed in school longer would have no shot. So, it is not an end-all, be-all saying that Moore will be a Hall of Fame wideout.
However, receivers who do produce when they are rookies at that young age continue to produce throughout their careers. That is six for six so far.
Moss had over 1,600 yards at age 26, Evans had 1,157, Fitzgerald had 1,092, Hopkins had 1,572, Cooper had 1,114 and only Brandin Cooks did not hit 1,000 yards. The odds are pretty high that D.J. Moore will only continue to produce more in the coming years, just like the rest of these wide receivers.
When you combine the fact that he was waiting for a quarterback to break out, and Fields was waiting for a wideout to break out, it feels like a match made in heaven.
