The news that I am waiting on is the announcement that the Chicago Bears will be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks. That news did not break today, but some interesting nuggets did come out at the NFL owners meeting regarding Desmond Ridder and the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons are currently picking one spot ahead of the Chicago Bears at eight in the 2023 NFL Draft. They are one team that many thought could be in on a quarterback come April. I didn't hate Ridder as a draft prospect, but he also isn't someone I'd hang my hat on if you know what I mean. It would not have shocked me if Falcons' head coach, Arthur Smith is using coach speak, but he came out and stated that Desmond Ridder is the starting quarterback for 2023

Will a quarterback fall to the Chicago Bears at ninth overall?

I just brought up the Lamar Jackson trade request news as a potential positive spin for Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears. If Jackson is traded to one of the teams ahead of the Bears in the 2023 NFL Draft, then I believe the chances of a quarterback falling to them at nine increases ever-so-slightly. Now, with the rumors that the Falcons are going to stick with Desmond Ridder, that percentage creeps up a little more.

Obviously, I am not looking for the Bears to take a quarterback at nine, but I am hoping that one falls to nine and Ryan Poles at least has the option to trade down. This might be wishful thinking, but I find that I like too many draft prospects who will be around in that 11 through 19 range. I can see three teams in that range looking to possibly move up to nine if they like the quarterback who falls - the Titans, Commanders, and Buccaneers. The Chicago Bears could possibly land another 2023 second-round pick or maybe if the trade involves the Commanders or Bucs, it could be a 2024 first.

Next. Poles delivers on promises in this 2023 mock draft. dark

No matter what happens, this is an exciting time for Chicago Bears fans. We get to see Ryan Poles work his magic with his first, first-round pick of his gerneral manager career.
