Despite the fact that the arrow is trending upward for the Chicago Bears, a question remains about how secure Matt Eberflus is in his role as the head coach of the team.

The Bears did not race out to the end-of-the-season press conference to confirm Eberflus would be retained for a third season but after a couple of days of deliberation, Ryan Poles gave the impression that Eberflus was indeed the man for the long-term,

Eberflus's contract with the Bears is believed to have two more years left, meaning an extension would likely be in the works for the head coach after this season.

Unless, of course, the Bears want to leave themselves the flexibility to upgrade at their head coaching spot next offseason.

If that is the case, the Bears would seemingly meet the requirements that Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator Ben Johnson set for what he is looking for in his first head coaching opportunity.

Ben Johnson could have an eye on the Bears after latest comments,

There is a scenario that exists where Caleb Williams proves to be the answer at the quarterback position, but Eberflus gets fired. That scenario is one where the Bears fail to win eight games next season and the defense takes a step backward. Not to mention, if there is a repeat concern of assistant coaches being dismissed for HR-related reasons, Eberflus may not have much of a ground to stand on.

If that is the scenario that occurs, the Bears undoubtedly would be the team that Johnson has an eye given that the roster should have the team in a position to win over the course of the next five seasons. Not to mention, Williams proving to be a superstar quarterback would all but guarantee Johnson getting a second contract with the Bears.
