Thought No. 5: Chicago Bears vs. Broncos preview

Both teams enter this week's game at 0-3 record. The Broncos came off a massive beatdown in the hands of the Miami Dolphins 70-20! And yet, the Bears are a home underdog! You thought the Bears loss to the Chiefs was bad? If you have not seen the video below, you can tell after the game how this loss impacted them.

While the Broncos have had more recent success than the Bears, they have fallen on hard times as well. New head coach Sean Payton trashed former head coach Nathaniel Hackett in the off-season and now he is getting feisty with the local media after the game.

Both teams are entering the game in desperation mode. The season could completely go off the rails if one of them loses. For the Bears, losing to a team that gave up 70 points would be even more embarrassing. If Justin Fields still struggles against their defense, which is as bad as the Bears' defense, and the offense cannot score points to win against them, then we all must ask the following questions about this team.

  • Should the Bears bench Justin Fields after the Amazon Prime Thursday Night game against Washington if he struggles against the Broncos team that gave up 70 points?
  • Should the Bears break their tradition of not firing head coaches in the middle of the season and fire Matt Eberflus following the Washington game if the team looks aloof and shows no effort the entire game?
  • If the offense remains as bad as it looks against Denver's defense, isn't it time they fire offensive coordinator Luke Getsy?

All those questions could be answered or at least provide a clue to what will likely happen after the Broncos game. This is likely the only game where the Bears have only legitimate shot at winning this season, and if they can't, then tanking for the No.1 pick, presumably USC quarterback Caleb Williams should begin immediately for the second consecutive season.

Final Score: Bears 27-17
