4 landing spots for Justin Fields after Steelers sign Russell Wilson
By Ryan Heckman
The 2024 NFL free agency period kicked off with some late-night news of one big name quarterback finding a new home. Russell Wilson is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which will have a big impact on the Chicago Bears going forward.
We knew the Steelers were in on finding another quarterback, and Justin Fields was a rumored candidate to land in Pittsburgh for a while now. With Wilson signing in Pittsburgh, that takes one major destination off the board for Fields, if the Bears indeed wind up trading him.
Which teams are left as potential suitors to trade for Fields? There are four, in particular, that make sense. Let's tackle them each real quick.
Atlanta Falcons
Of course, the number one destination still appears to be the Atlanta Falcons. Many have kept Atlanta at the top of the list of Fields suitors for quite some time now, and it makes a world of sense for both parties.
The Falcons have a pretty solid core on offense with Drake London, Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts. The missing piece so happens to be under center, with Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke not necessarily being the long-term solutions.
Atlanta could swing a deal for Fields all while ensuring they use that no. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on another position of need, rather than either reaching for a quarterback or trading up and sacrificing a plethora of draft capital.
Fields is also a Georgia native, which means he would certainly be happy with landing in Atlanta. Sure, he loves Chicago. But, the Falcons could be a perfect fit for the former first-round pick.
