The loss against the Vikings came with a huge cost as Justin Fields was injured. It could also make the rest of the 2023 season irrelevant.

Chicago Bears fans went through a roller coaster of emotions the last two weeks. The Bears blew a 28-7 lead to lose against the Denver Broncos, who were demolished by the Miami Dolphins 70-20 the week before. Then with only four days removed from that horrendous loss, the Bears went to Washington and defeated them 40-20 last Thursday night.

In both games combined, quarterback Justin Fields threw for more than 600 yards, and 8 touchdowns. He is finally clicking with wide receiver DJ Moore. The Washington game was a coming-out party for Moore, who exploded for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Washington game is to be a eulogy for embattled head coach Matt Eberflus. Instead, the win gave him and the Bears a new lease on life.

The Chicago Bears came back down to Earth against the Vikings

With eleven days off after Thursday Night Football, they welcomed the Minnesota Vikings minus superstar receiver Justin Jefferson, who suffered an injury and is out for at least a month. They were also dealing with trade rumors about their starting quarterback Kirk Cousins. While both teams entered the content with a record at 1-4, the momentum was clearly on the Bears' side.

Justin Fields could build a strong case to be a starter for next year with another strong outing against the reeling division rival. Winning consecutive games also could have helped Matt Eberflus take further heat off his back.

Instead, they not only lost 19-13 in a demoralizing fashion, they also lost quarterback Justin Fields after he left the game with an injury to his right hand, which was later revealed that he suffered a dislocated thumb. Fields looked timid and held onto the ball too long, just like he did the first three games of the season, which did not help his case before a breakout performance in the last two games.
