Chicago Bears fans lose all sensibilities with baseless Micah Parsons speculation

With NFL teams set to finalize their initial 53-man rosters by Tuesday afternoon, the big news on Monday was that the Dallas Cowboys signed wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a four-year extension worth $136MM.

Lamb and the Cowboys were at a standstill during the offseason regarding a new contract and considering Dallas will also need to pay quarterback Dak Prescott and pass rusher Micah Parsons soon, the deal ignited nonsensical speculation from Bears fans on social media.

Parsons is the leader of the Cowboys' defense and one of the, if not, the best, pass rusher in the NFL. By all accounts, the Cowboys are intent on keeping Parson for the long-term and there's been no whiff of trade speculation from actual NFL reporters.

That would be why what Bears fans did on Monday is a sign of the growth they still have yet to encounter.

All it took was a pipedream post from a fan account on social media to have fans already looking to buy a Parsons' Bears jersey.

That is the tweet that started the frenzy. Not an update from Adam Schefter. Not a breaking news item from Ian Rapoport. Not even a mere mention from Tom Pelissero. It was Billy breaking the news to his 763 followers on X.

The year is 2024. The Bears potentially have, finally, a franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams. This means that Bears fans need to stop falling for the banana in the tailpipe with everything they see on social media. Even Caleb Williams' reposting (and then, deleting) a fan account making reference to the Parsons' speculation is something that meant nothing.

It's a simple ask: be better. The Bears' past incompetencies were enough to make all fans lose logic, but when the team is finally operating with intelligence and moving in the right direction, it's time that all of us fans can also be better with what we fall for on social media.
