8 Chicago Bears players who will soon be cut
By Ryan Heckman
As the Chicago Bears gear up for their third and final preseason game, the roster is starting to take shape.
Certain positions have shown us some surprises, here and there, and we're not exactly sure what the final roster will look like. Although, a good 85 percent seems to be locked in.
What we can assume almost for certain, is that these following eight players will soon be cut.
1. Stephen Carlson, TE
The Bears' tight end room seems to be a lock. It may be the easiest position within the roster to predict, with Cole Kmet, Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis making the squad. The Bears have their receiving tight ends in Kmet and Tonyan, with Lewis being an excellent blocker.
Undrafted rookie Lachlan Pitts will be cut without question.
That would leave veteran Stephen Carlson as another odd man out. The former Cleveland Brown was signed back in May and has no chance at beating out Lewis for a spot on the final roster.
2. Trestan Ebner, RB
Running back is another spot that's relatively easy to predict, at least through the top three backs. Khalil Herbert, D'Onta Foreman and rookie Roschon Johnson will make the team, no problem. Veteran Travis Homer will also likely make the squad for special teams and third down purposes. In addition, the Bears will keep full back Khari Blasingame.
Those five backs would then leave Trestan Ebner as the lone running back cut from the team, and in turn become a practice squad candidate.
