Chicago Bears Roster Projection Preseason Week 2: Who is going to make the 53-man roster?

Who will make the Chicago Bears 53-man roster when cutdowns happen in a littl e

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Now that the second preseason game is in the books it is a good time to look back at the Chicago Bears' 53-man roster and see where things stand. There is still one more week of play to go, and things will certainly change, but we can see if anything occurred in week two that shook things up.

Quarterback (2) Justin Fields, PJ Walker

PJ Walker is starting to feel the pressure from Tyson Bagent. Fans will want to see this swapped already, but I need to see one more week before making the call.

Running Back (5): Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, D'ontae Foreman, Travis Homer, Khari Blassingame

The big question here is Travis Homer. Last week, it looked like he was off of the roster. However, an injury to Trestan Ebner combined with Homer excelling on special teams made this roster spot happen.

Wide Receiver (6): Darnell Mooney, DJ Moore, Chase Claypool, Tyler Scott, Velus Jones, Equanimeous St. Brown

Velus Jones and Tyler Scott are injured, which hurts because Dante Pettis is coming on hot to make the roster as the punt return man.

Tight End (3): Cole Kmet, Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis

All three of these guys sat in preseason week two, and none of them appear to be injury-related which tells you all you need to know here.

Offensive Line (9): Braxton Jones, Cody Whitehair, Teven Jenkins, Nate Davis, Darnell Wright, Larry Borom, Lucas Patrick, Ja'Tyre Carter, Alex Leatherwood

There are two questions here with the top eight names locked in. First, do they even keep a ninth lineman? If they do, is Leatherwood or can Doug Kramer or Logan Stenberg make the case to be kept instead?

Defensive Line (10): Yannick Ngakoue, DeMarcus Walker, Rasheem Green, Dominique Robinson, Terrell Lewis, Trevis Gipson, Gervon Dexter, Zacch Pickens, Justin Jones, Andrew Billings

After the performance that Terrell Lewis has displayed all summer, it is hard to see the Chicago Bears cutting him. We have nine of these guys locked in; the question is if they will really keep ten, which includes six edge rushers. Can Trevis Gipson rile up any trade interest?

Linebackers (5): Tremaine Edmunds, TJ Edwards, Jack Sanborn, Noah Sewell, Mykal Walker

We have Mykal Walker making it as the fifth linebacker, but this could easily be Micas Baskerville. Baskerville started over Walker and made plays on special teams, but he is still a rookie UDFA.

Cornerbacks (5): Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Tyrique Stevenson, Terell Smith, Josh Blackwell

We had been keeping six, but nobody has stepped up and earned that spot. Jaylon Jones was there last week, but he was buried on the cornebrack depth chart and did not play as well on special teams in week two compared to week one. Is he sliding down on the coach's board?

Safety (5): Eddie Jackson, Jaquan Brisker, AJ Thomas, Elijah Hicks, Adrian Colbert

We gave the sixth cornerback spot to Adrian Colbert. He has shown enough on special teams, he has NFL experience, and with the injury to Jaquan Brisker, the Chicago Bears may want to lean to being deeper at safety compared to cornerback.

Specialists (3): Trenton Gill, Patrick Scales, Cario Santos
