Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 61 Travis Bell
We are going through the Chicago Bears roster as we countdown the top players impacting the 2023 season. This list is only looking into the upcoming season and ranking which players have the best chance of making the team and impacting the roster. We have made it to number 61, Travis Bell.
Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 61 Travis Bell
Travis Bell is a seventh-round rookie from Kennesaw State. He played sparingly in the first three years at college, and then the 2021 season saw him take off. That is when he got on radars, and 2022, he found himself getting drafted.
Many draftniks saw Bell going undrafted, but Ryan Poles personally vouched for Bell and went out of his way to draft him. Poles brought him to Chicago for a pre-draft workout and said he had to keep a person like that with the team. So, he selected Bell.
Still, Bell sits at 61 in our roster ranking, meaning he may not make the initial 53. That is certainly possible, but at the same time, not all seventh-round picks end up making it during their rookie season. Plenty of seventh-round picks end up on the practice squad.
More than that, he was the third interior lineman drafted in that class. Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens will be ahead of him, barring an injury. More than that, they signed Andrew Billings and brought back Justin Jones. Even if he made the roster, the odds would be high that he would end up inactive during the first few weeks of the season.
His development is important, but his 2023 impact may end up being minimal. The Chicago Bears have to see a longer-term path to the roster for him, which is why he is outside the top 53 as we enter. He may end up making the roster over players we rank lower, but they may have had a stronger case to get onto the field when training camp starts.
