The countdown until the season gets underway is getting closer, and we are getting closer to the top players on the Chicago Bears roster. This list focuses on which players have the best chance of making the roster and making contributions once they get there.

We are working down the top 90, and are onto number 62, edge rusher Jalyn Holmes.

Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 62 Jalyn Holmes

Jalyn Holmes is a former fourth-round pick from the 2018 NFL draft. He spent three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, and had his biggest role in 2020, when he played 617 of his career 980 snaps. Still, since then, he played just 189 snaps in 2021 with the New Orleans Saints, and then he played 34 snaps with the Chicago Bears last season.

One reason he is so close to the top 53 is that he played for the team last season. Also, he has 234 snaps as an interior rusher and 639 snaps as an edge rusher. So he can play the inside-outside game. We know the Chicago Bears signed DeMarcus Walker to fill that role.

On one side, that is bad for Holmes, because they prioritized his replacement. On the other hand, his role is featured in the defense, and if Walker did go down, they would love to have Holmes, who has been in the defense for a year or so.

This is what makes him a prime candidate for the practice squad. He should see it as a good deal, as it would be hard to catch on somewhere else. He can be the PS backup for Walker, and if anything did happen, he could get the elevation.

We are ranking Holmes this low because he should not make the team in a perfect world, but we also have to acknowledge that he is more likely to get on the field than some of the players entering training camp in the 70s on our list.
