We are going through the Chicago Bears roster and finding out which players are the most valuable on the 2023 team. We are working our way down to number 53, but for now, we are handicapping which players have the best shot at making the roster this season.

As we continue the list we have made it to number 73.

Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 73 Robert Burns

Robert Burns is a rookie UDFA from UConn. He plays fullback, which makes his position intriguing regarding his roster ranking. He will be the backup almost no matter what, so he does have a decently clean path to the roster.

Also, while he was a UDFA, not many fullbacks get drafted at all, so the Chicago Bears could see him as a good one. To be fair, he went to Miami for three seasons and could not get on the field much. It took him transferring to Uconn to get on the field. Still, it is not like Miami was going to a fullback-heavy offense, so it may have been more about playing time than his actual play.

Burns also proven himself on special teams at both Miami and UConn, which is huge for his chances to make the roster. Still, most of his roster chances hinge on Khari Blasingame and his health. If anything happened, Burns would be thrust into action.

Burns does have another path, which pushes him up to 73 on our ranking. That would be if he showed up and even was in competition with Blasingame. He may not have to beat him out cleanly because Burns is younger and would be under team control longer and for cheaper than Blasingame. The Chicago Bears do not need to trim salary cap space, but if things were close, they could lean toward Burns.

Then, they can roll over the extra salary cap space, and they would be loaded with space again next year. This move would not be a game-changer, so Burns is only at 73. Still, he has a shot at getting onto the 53-man roster, which is all that a UDFA rookie wants to hear.
