Week 1 did not go exactly the way we had hoped for. The Chicago Bears got the victory, but it was in an unexpected fashion.

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams made his regular season debut, and while he became the first quarterback selected no. 1 overall to win his first start since 2002, it wasn't pretty. Williams was under pressure and uncomfortable most of the afternoon.

Thankfully, Williams' defense and special teams picked up the slack. After allowing the Titans to score 17 points in the first half, Chicago's defense put the clamps on Will Levis and Tennessee's offense in the second half, shutting them out.

Part of the defense's second-half shutout also included the moment which officially flipped the script for the Bears. After a Cairo Santos field goal brought Chicago within one, it was Levis who felt the pressure on the very next drive. And, the Titans quarterback tossed up a total prayer rather than taking a sack.

Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson did the rest, and the Bears went on to win.

One fan captured the Stevenson pick-six from the stands, and the roar of Soldier Field will be music to any fan's ears.

It's incredible.

Be on the lookout for overreactions to Caleb Williams' debut and the Bears' defense carrying this team in Week 1

Despite the Bears coming out with the win, all of the talk this week is going to be about how the defense had to carry Williams and the offense. The Stevenson interception won the game for Chicago, while the offense did little to nothing.

But, this was Williams' debut, so he's going to be under the microscope.

Does he deserve it, though? Opinions will vary, of course. However, those who watched the entire game saw Williams continually seeing pressure, especially from the interior. The rookie hardly had any time to blink, let alone see past his first or second read before having to get out of the way.

At times, Williams did look like a rookie. And, knowing his mentality, he'll watch a lot of film this week while he and Shane Waldron make adjustments for Week 2.

It's going to be hard for a lot of folks to enjoy this win, namely the national media. Anytime the Bears have had a great defense picking up the offense's slack, that's been the name of the game. But, Williams and the offense will be just fine.

Let the media overreact if they want, but as fans, we can enjoy the win thanks to plays this defense made while also looking forward to better days, offensively.
