Those hoping that the Chicago Bears do not draft Caleb Williams with the first overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft continue to lose arguments.
After successful visits for Williams with the Bears at the NFL Scouting Combine in February and USC's Pro Day last month, the last checkmark that was needed was for the quarterback to complete a Pre-Draft visit to Halas Hall.
While speaking with reporters at the NFL Annual Meetings last week, Ryan Poles confirmed that Williams would be visiting Halas Hall during the first week of April. It would seem that the meeting has happened as "The Waddle and Silvy Show" of ESPN 1000 confirmed the details.
Caleb Williams is already getting to know his future Chicago Bears teammates.
The last remaining item that needed to be crossed off was Williams completing a medical evaluation. Assuming there were no red flags from that evaluation, it likely would have been discovered by now, this was the last bar that the Bears needed to clear in order to finalize their decision to move forward with Williams.
The note of Williams having dinner with current Bears players is an interesting wrinkle in what is the beginning stages of the quarterback becoming the face of the franchise. Considering the support that Justin Fields had in the locker room, it goes without saying that Williams will need to earn the respect of the core members of the team.
It's worth noting that wide receiver DJ Moore, left guard Teven Jenkins, and tight end Cole Kmet were all pictured at the Chicago Cubs home opener at Wrigley Field on Monday. It may not be out of the question that each of those three players were at the dinner with Williams on Tuesday night.
