There is a video circulating of Matt Eberflus walking up to multiple players pre-game trying to hype them up. In doing so, it appears that every player has a nickname. Some are not great but most are pretty awesome. You can tell that the Chicago Bears locker room is doing well and it could be a reason that Eberflus is kept on beyond the 2023 season. We can discuss that at a different time, but let's dive into some of these nicknames shall we?

Most of the nicknames we hear are for the defensive side of the ball.

Jaquan Brisker = Mako
Kyler Gordon = Spider-Man
Jaylon Johnson = Dragon Slayer
Eddie Jackson = BoJack
Terell Smith = Smitty
Jack Sanborn = Sandman
T.J. Edwards = Hitman
Tremaine Edmunds = Predator
Montez Sweat = Beast
Gervon Dexter = Dino Dex
DeMarcus Walker = D Walk
Andrew Billings = Juggernaut
Darnell Wright = D Wright
Justin Fields = One
Tyson Bagent = Bae
Roschon Johnson = Governor
Khari Blasingame = KB
Tyler Scott = T-Scott
Velus Jones = V12

These are all of the ones we were able to hear in the video clip, but I'd love to hear all of the nicknames he has for every player. You can tell that the defensive side of the ball has better ones. Tyler Scott's and Darnell Wright's nicknames are pretty awful. Justin Fields' and Khari Blasingame's nicknames are not much better. He didn't give Eddie Jackson a new one, but these other names are legit.

What's funny about this is that when asked about the nicknames by local media, Matt Eberflus came back with "I got nicknames for you guys too" — referring to the media members.

I'd love to hear what he calls some of the guys in the media room. Adam Hoge is probably Hogie (too simple). Does he call Adam Jahns, "Jahnsy" like everyone else? Kevin Fishbain is probably something like "Fishman", "Fisherman" or maybe "Captain." I have no idea what he'd call Herb Howard, Mark Carman, or Courtney Cronin. What are some other possible nicknames you think he has for the other media members?

No matter what happens this offseason, I will definitely give Matt Eberflus some credit for his ability to build and maintain relationships with his players. I'm not sold on that being enough when it comes to remaining as the head coach, but I'm sure he will bounce back on his feet quickly as a defensive coordinator somewhere if fired.
