This has quickly become the Chicago Bears biggest need

The Chicago Bears have slowly seen their roster get built up by Ryan Poles. They appear to have four offensive linemen with potential, and with Montez Sweat in the mix, their defensive line is coming together. The linebackers are pricey, but the hole is fixed, and the secondary has finally shown what it can do.

The Chicago Bears need help at wide receiver

While it looks like D.J. Moore has fixed a decent hole at pass catcher, all he has really done is expose just how bad the rest of the group is. With Montez Sweat, he put less pressure on the rest of the group, and they are rising up. The Bears wide receiver corps did not respond the same way to Moore.

Chase Claypool got traded pretty quickly. Darnell Mooney has been coming back from an ankle injury, and it does not look like he can get on the same page as Justin Fields. Tyler Scott is expected to replace Darnell Mooney, but injuries to everyone but Mooney have him playing everything but the role he will play next year. Then, there is Equanimeous St. Brown, who essentially is just a tell that a run or screen pass is coming.

D.J. Moore has 70 catches for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns. Moore averages 10 yards per target and 2.37 yards per route run. The rest of the receivers are at 46 catches for 536 yards with two touchdowns. That is 6.1 yards per target.

After Moore and his impressive 2.37 yards per route run is Darnell Mooney at 0.98. Behind him is Equanimeous St. Brown at 0.53, and Tyler Scott is behind him at 0.50. Velus Jones averages 0.47 yards per route run, and Trent Taylor has 34 routes and zero yards. This is a bad group after D.J. Moore.

Moore is having a career year with Justin Fields, and the splits that he has with Fields and without him this year are wild. It is starting to become clear what the problem was. When you give Fields a receiver such as Moore, he has success. It is the guys such as Mooney, St.Brown, and Scott that have delayed the process over the past two years. The team just needs one more wideout, and perhaps Scott can slide into the Mooney role and find more success. Still, that receiver is quickly becoming the Chicago Bears' biggest need.
