The 2023 season is inching closer and closer. Training camp is roughly a month away and fans of all teams are getting hyped for what they expect to be a good season. Some fans have more reason to be excited than others, but this is the time of year when hope is still prevalent. Chicago Bears fans should fall somewhere in between when looking ahead to the 2023 season. They should have hope that the team builds on what was a roller-coaster of a season in 2022, while also pushing to become a playoff contender. No one should expect this team to be a Super Bowl contender though.

The Chicago Bears roster is filled with holes and question marks

When we look at the roster, there are still some glaring holes. Defensive end is easily the biggest concern. We should still be leery about the defensive tackles too. Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens look to be solid additions, but outside of Andrew Billings, the interior of the defensive line has some big question marks. Billings is not a penetrator and we saw how pedestrian Justin Jones was most of the 2022 season. Can Dexter or Pickens become the 3-technique that Matt Eberflus desperately needs? It's too soon to tell. No matter what, the Bears need to find a way to generate more pressure.

When we look at the roster, the team needs to lean more on the offense than the defense. This is strange to say coming from anyone who has been following the Chicago Bears for basically the franchise's entire existence. Monster's of the Midway was never a term describing the offense. It's a little strange thinking about how the offense needs to be the focal point while the defense does just enough not to screw things up. With that said, let's take a look at who the five most important players on the roster are and rank them in reverse order starting with number five.
