3 storylines to watch from Chicago Bears linebackers in preseason week one
The Chicago Bears will have plenty of movers and shakers during the preseason. There will be battles and up and down the depth chart as the team looks to make a big step in 2023. When looking at the linebacker position it had some of the biggest turnover in recent years. What are some key things to look into in this position?
3. Can Noah Sewell push Jack Sanborn to start with the Chicago Bears?
Jack Sanborn earned himself a starting spot with his play last season. However, 2023 has mainly been about him getting healthy, and he has not played much. Still, when he has played, it has been with the starters. The issue is that Noah Sewell is coming for him, and everyone can see it.
Sewell was drafted while Sanborn was a UDFA. Sanborn has the experience, and Sewell is the better athlete. Sewell has also been one of the huge stock-up players from training camp. Because Sanborn has been out so much, the Bears have been playing Sewell at linebacker with the starters. He has thrived.
So, Sanborn earned the right to be number one on the depth chart. Now, they are entering NFL stadiums, and what happens in the coming weeks in the real competition. If Sanborn cannot stay on the field, or Sewell is better than him, a job is seriously on the line here.
It may only be a matter of time until Sewell catches Sanborn. Or, we remember who Sanborn is when he gets healthy and puts on a show in the preseason. This alone will be worth tuning in for most Chicago Bears fans.
