This 2024 NFL Prospect is the perfect fit for the Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are a team with a long history of great defenses. Defense is the pride and joy of Chicago, with some of the most well-known players in Bears history being on the defensive side of the ball. Continuing the trend of great Chicago Defenses could be in the cards for the 2024 Chicago Bears.
The Bears have added significant help in the last couple of years on defense. Adding players such as Montez Sweat, Tremaine Edmunds, and T.J. Edwards to a young and talented secondary. Even with these acquisitions, they may not quite be done yet.
Chicago has been gifted with two top 10 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft and will be looking to add immediate impact players with those two picks. With it looking likely the Bears add to the offense with the first pick, they could look to the defensive side with the ninth overall pick. While just a few days ago it looked like they could go offense with both picks, they recently acquired wide receiver Kennan Allen from the Chargers. This acquisition allows them the flexibility to fill more holes with the ninth pick.
One player to keep an eye out at 9th overall, is the edge rusher from Alabama, Dallas Turner
The Bears have a need at the edge position and one direction they could lean towards is Dallas Turner. Turner played in the SEC, one of the most physical conferences in all of college football, and he still managed to make a significant impact on the field. Having a guy as athletic as Turner opposite of Sweat could bolster this defensive line to a new level.
Turner may be one of the most athletically gifted edge rushers in the draft. Nfl.com has him listed at 6'3, 247 pounds, and the highest athletic score for his position at the combine. His combined score was fueled by a 4.46 40-yard dash, a 40.5" vertical, and a 10'7" broad jump. These numbers may have jumped off the page enough, to where Ryan Poles can not ignore them.
In his time as Bears GM, Poles has had a trend of finding players with high athletic scores. With Turner having the highest combine score at his position and the tape to back it up, it could be a no-brainer for Poles to select Turner with the 9th pick. Having both Turner and Sweat on the defensive line could make for a dynamic duo for the next few years.
