The Chicago Bears will have a new-look offense in 2024 with a rookie quarterback in Caleb Williams to go along with rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze and veteran Pro Bowler Keenan Allen.

The additions to the Bears' offense are joined by returning playmakers DJ Moore and Cole Kmet. While running back D'Andre Swift was also a key addition to the Bears' offense this offseason, the signing that may have the biggest impact is one that Bears fans might be overlooking.

One of the first signings that the Bears made this offseason was bringing in tight end Gerald Everett on two-year deal. Everett's familiarity with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron's system is one of the main reasons why he is entering his first season with the Bears but he will give a new layer to the Bears' offense that fans haven't seen before.

While Everett thrives is as a safety blankets for quarterbacks while playing on the edge of the offensive line. This is why the Bears' decision to bring back veteran Marcedes Lewis has no impact on Everett's role with the Bears. At this point in his career, Lewis is closer to an additional offensive lineman on run plays than he is a functional second tight end in a passing offense.

Gerald Everett will be a perfect compliment for Caleb Williams.

That is why it may be easy for fans to discard the potential impact that Everett will have on the Bears. In a functioning offense, two tight-end sets that feature two options that can make plays in the passing game can be the difference between an offense that is able to score points consistently and an offense that has struggled to score in the red zone. That has been part of the problem for the Bears' inconsistent offense in recent seasons. Sure, Everett may not be the sexy name of the Bears' offseason additions but his role should not be overlooked.
