When there are teams listed as potential landing spots to trade the Chicago Bears for Justin Fields, one of the first teams that gets brought up is the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is hard to find a team that is a better fit on paper. Why are the Steelers the best fit for Justin Fields?

Are the Pittsburgh Steelers the favorites to land Justin Fields this offseason?

First, they obviously need a quarterback. They benched their former first-round pick Kenny Pickett in a playoff game in favor of Mason Rudolph. That does not scream confidence in Pickett. Rudolph is a free agent, but just like Joshua Dobbs, Jake Browning, or any of these backup quarterbacks, his charm that led the Steelers to a 3-1 finish will wear off.

So, what do the Steelers do? They have to be interested in the quarterback. Before the 2021 NFL draft, Mike Tomlin was seen chatting up Fields and showing serious interest in the prospect who did not fall into their range. Now, they hired Arthur Smith, who many link to Fields after the success he has made from Marcus Mariota. Between Tomlin and Smith, we know that the Steelers will lean run heavy, regardless of the quarterback, but adding the mobility of Fields to upgrade from Pickett would be a great fit.

If we know anything it is that the Steelers and Bears can work out a deal together. The Steelers are not typically the team known to make a big swing, but they also could be desperate. If they realize the Fields do not have quite the interest around the league that is being presumed right now, you could certainly see the Steelers come in and acquire Justin Fields for the right price. We will soon find out what that price is.
