The Chicago Bears were looking good on their opening drive of the third quarter versus the Washington Commanders in Week 6 before a penalty stalled out the drive.

At first, the beginning of the drive looked bad before a Commanders penalty gave the Bears a new set of downs. That's when Caleb Williams connected with Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III on big pass plays before getting into the red zone.

That's when the chaos began.

On a third and six at the Commanders' 11-yard line, Williams was able to connect with Odunze on a beautiful 11-yard touchdown catch that was more of a back-shoulder catch. Until it wasn't.

The Bears were called on an illegal formation on the left tackle Theo Benedet. That backed them up five yards with Williams getting sacked on third down. Chicago was forced to kick a field goal to take the 16-10 lead.

Chicago's penalty was a missed call

Going back to the Benedet penalty, the referees were saying that he was too far behind the line where the other linemen were. On the ABC broadcast, none of the commentators were able to see it and said he wasn't far enough back to make that a penalty.

A missed call that really hurt the Bears.

That's because on the next Commanders offensive drive, Washington drove down the field and scored a touchdown. They took the 17-16 lead.

That should have been a lead for the Bears, but it ended up not being the case. A soul-crushing moment for the Bears as they trailed in the game for the first time.
