From the moment the Chicago Bears selected Caleb Williams number one overall, the hope has been he can live up to the franchise quarterback title. Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze believes he is that guy.

While appearing on ESPN's Get Up, senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler revealed what Odunze told him about Williams' potential in a big way. Fowler also added his report on what new Bears head coach Ben Johnson is doing with Williams for him to reach that full potential.

"Rome Odunze told me Caleb Williams can literally be the best quarterback in the NFL. He's far away from that right now. You mentioned deconstruction. That's exactly right. Ben Johnson has been relentless on him with the details.

They're just trying to get him to do the basics right now, and then they'll work on the off-scripted plays, the mobility, all his strengths. That will come. Now, the Chicago Bears ' elite quarterback play is an oxymoron. It's always been that way, but as far as the ability, they see it. The player recognizes it. They just have to get it out of him."

Williams is inching closer to becoming the elite quarterback he can be for the Bears

Fans saw glimpses of Williams' potential last year as he threw for over 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns to six interceptions, starting all 17 games. Everyone seems to fixate more on the 10 fumbles and 68 sacks he took in 2024, though.

There are several areas Williams needs to improve, including getting rid of the ball more quickly and using his body language to demonstrate the kind of leader he is. Johnson has been all over him during the offseason workouts and training camp practices to ensure that's happening.

Although it's not happening consistently, as everyone would like, progress is being made at camp. There have been some beautiful throws Williams has made to his receivers that would get fans excited about what he can become.
